The “Explanation Letter”

Most applications have an “Additional Information” section. Use it.

Don’t leave them guessing why you failed Math. Tell them.

“I failed Math because I was hospitalized for dengue.” (If true).

“I failed Math because I didn’t take it seriously. But I retook it and scored 80%. This shows I learned my lesson.” (Honesty works).

The “Gap Year” Justification

A gap year is not a bad thing if you did something.

  • Learned a language? Good.
  • Traveled? Good (Cultural exposure).
  • Worked in a call center? Good (Communication skills).

Just don’t say “I sat at home and watched TV.”
