Dads love numbers. Don’t talk about “dreams” and “exposure.” Talk about Return on Investment (ROI).
“Dad, if I do an MBA here in a private college, it costs 15 Lakhs. Starting salary is 4 Lakhs. It takes 4 years to recover the money. If I go to Germany, cost is 15 Lakhs (living). Starting salary is 40 Lakhs. I recover it in 6 months.”
The “Safety” Argument (For Moms)
Moms worry about you eating and not getting kidnapped.
Show them YouTube videos of Indian students cooking dal chawal in that country. Connect them with a relative or a friend’s friend who lives there. “See Mom, Sharma ji’s son is there, he is fine.”
The “Settlement” Argument
Parents fear you will never come back. Be honest. Tell them you will work for a few years, earn in dollars/euros, save up, and then you have the option to come back rich or settle there. It’s a win-win.
